The story

"Do you have an alternative?"

The problem

Out of stock, and the patient is waiting

Every day at the counter, an item is missing or the patient wants something cheaper. The pharmacist needs to know quickly what's registered in Saudi Arabia with the same ingredient, strength and form, and compare prices. Searching the SFDA list by hand takes time.

The fix

One search, every alternative

The guide reads the SFDA registered-products list, matches alternatives with clear pharmacy rules and sorts them cheapest first, so you can suggest one in seconds.

Matching rules

When does a product count as an alternative?

Pharmacy rules I set myself so results are correct and usable for dispensing.

Active moiety only

The salt doesn't matter: metformin HCl and any other metformin salt count as the same ingredient.

Tablets are one form

Plain, coated and film-coated tablets are treated as the same dosage form.

Release type must match

Extended-release isn't an alternative for immediate-release, nor is enteric-coated.

The guide supports the pharmacist. Dispensing an alternative is a professional decision that considers the patient.
